What if we told you it was potentially possible to ease issues like mild pain and stress through a special massage called Reflexology? Who isn’t up for a massage that can do something like that?

Based on a theory that the feet, hands, and ears are connected to particular organs and body systems, during a reflexology massage, the pressure is applied to different points in these areas to target more specific organs and systems.

Where did Reflexology come from?

It’s believed that reflexology stems back to ancient Chinese culture and their belief of Qi (“chee”). Qi could most easily be equated to the follow of energy through a person’s body. The ancient Chinese believed that when a person is stressed, the body blocks qi from flowing. If qi isn’t able to flow through the body, then pain and illness can happen within the body.

Reflexology massages were used to keep the qi moving so that the body would be well and disease-free. Chinese medicine shows that different pressure points in the hands, feet, and ears coincide with specific points in the body. Applying this pressure would cause the relief to those specific areas.

These pressure point maps are still used today, especially within reflexology.

What are the benefits of Reflexology?

Technically there is not enough scientific evidence to support exactly what reflexology helps with. However, there has been considerable research done to show that this massage can help with reducing pain, lowering stress and anxiety levels, and lifting moods.

Many people who have received reflexology massages have also shared that it helped with:

  • Back pain
  • Sinus issues
  • Battling cancer
  • Arthritis pain
  • Fertility
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Bacterial infections
  • Immune system
  • Nerve problems
  • Digestion

Is Reflexology safe?

There are really no dangers in receiving a reflexology massage. Because it is a comfortable non-invasive massage, even if you had severe health conditions it’s likely you could have a reflexology massage. If you are having any trouble on your feet or hands, or have blood clots or thyroid problems, maybe check with your doctor to see if you can receive a reflexology massage.
